REFINED METALWORKS WITH NORA IZUXX

Jewellery, sculpturing & writing

Currently based in Mexico City, Nora Izuxx’s main field of practice is metalwork and jewellery. The Australian-Japanese artist says that her work is inspired by Archaeology, as it brings “a certain type of essence of energy that the new age society has lost touch with.” She believes that there is something completely natural about the history of spirits which are brought to life in detailed and handcrafted objects that bring unfathomable stories. She adds: “As our generation completely lacks awareness, we are unaware that our hands are the ultimate tools to create ourselves and our environment around us. Many humans destroy without understanding the circumstances of what it does to history: we are obliterating something sacred second by second.”

Nora uses recycled sheets of silver, gold, or brass as the main material for her works. Her other tools include pliers, different forms of wax, wax carving tools, an alcohol lamp for melting, and many more depending on her current project. Nora says that she also uses her senses as an “internal” ingredient and tool, to create emotional responses in the spectator and wearer. The artist’s work isn’t just limited to metalwork and jewellery, however. She also dips in and out of sculpture making and creative writing, and is curious to explore other fields of art.

Another important characteristic of Nora’s artwork is that it is continuously evolving: “Rotation and recycling is very important to my work as I go through phases quickly, and desire to execute different ideas at a fast pace. Therefore, my work is always extremely varied. I don't enjoy presenting a “set” aesthetic to my work; I think that is what makes my work unique.”

The artist also took part in our stuck@home initiative - see on our website: “Corona virus might be a bitch, however the fundamental practice we need to perform is to eliminate prejudice, social status and create a bountiful spectrum of unison and love.”
